Skill System

Every character has 10 (15 for Faculty) base skill points that may be distributed any way between the Academic, Athletic, and Artistic skills. They can gain more skill points and new skills/talents by roleplaying experience and practice with the relevant subjects (1 skill point can be gained per topic by doing something that relates to the associated skill).

Academic: Characters with high Academic skill tend to be highly intelligent. Their areas of expertise are varied--some are knowledgeable about history, some are good with math, and others have a wide array of knowledge.

Athletic: Characters with high Athletic skill are often, as you might expect, excellent athletes! The form their athletic skill takes may vary--some are strong, some are agile, and some are simply stubborn enough that they keep standing after a hit that would knock out anyone else.

Artistic: Characters with high Artistic skill tend to be creative and innovative. They may be artists, designers, inventors, musicians, or any combination.

Skill Checks

If you want to leave the outcome of a situation up to chance, you can use this system. Outside of certain events, skill checks are optional! They utilize the 6-sided Dice. By default, every character has 1 die for each skill. You gain 1 extra die for every 5 points in a specific skill. So, if you had 2 points in the Athletic skill, you would roll 1 die for an Athletic check; and if you had 10 points in Academic, you would roll 3 dice for an Academic check.

Skill checks are divided into four separate categories, based on difficulty: Simple, Advanced, Expert, and Master.

Simple skill checks are things that require basic understanding of a given skill. Success requires rolling a total of 4 or higher.

Advanced skill checks are things that usually require a bit more practice or research. Success requires rolling a total of 10 or higher.

Expert skill checks are things that probably require experience or theoretical knowledge. Success requires rolling a total of 16 or higher.

Master skill checks are things that are incredibly difficult for one reason or another. Success requires rolling a total of 20 or higher.
